Event 2 Blog - Jessica Irish - Blake Kirshner

Jessica Irish's lecture was very informative and I would highly recommend, she discussed the very pressing issue of climate change, specifically through emissions. As Jessica mentioned, the most common way countries emit carbon is by the burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, natural gas, and petroleum. These fossil fuels are burned in order to create energy. Energy for cars, factories, and large scale machines across the world.

Early on in human history, this was doable because the human population wasn't nearly big enough to damage the atmosphere like it has. As Jessica Irish said, "we were given this amazing planet, and it is up to us to create energy in a way that protects it". Planet earth is art, and art is understanding the best ways to protect and preserve the most beautiful processes. On a smaller scale, we can educate ourselves about the use of fossil fuels in our daily lives to be apart of the solution instead of the problem.
Things like riding a bike and changing lightbulbs can help the problem, but the real issue as Ms. Irish told the class is on a political level. Changing the hearts and minds of the people of America to vote into office officials who take climate change seriously is when we will see the most change in helping planet earth survive. Policies that prevent carbon emissions from going any further will help save this planet in a wonderful way.
