Week 9 - Space + Art - Blake Kirshner
This week's topic was perhaps the most interesting to me. In the past weeks, we have learned about how the best artist are successful due to their creativity and ability to think outside of the box. When human's were still naive about the stars and solar system, and where earth was in relationship to the sun, creativity made possible the greatest discoveries. For example Nicolaus Copernicus, an astronomer in the early 1500's had to harness his outside of the box thinking to come up with a heliocentric model. This model set the sun in the middle of the solar system instead of the earth (see picture below).
It is the mysteriousness of space that is so very intriguing to me, and many people who have chosen to study the stars. Art is mystery, and there are so many photos and pictures that have yet to be drawn and captured that put people in awe of how large the universe is and how little humans know about it. Below is one of the most remarkable space photo's I have ever seen, captured from one of Saturn's moons, Mimas, of the planet Saturn.
In order to learn more about space, NASA and other organizations need to be able to travel farther. Wether this be by way of an unmanned drone or a manned space station, structures like the KSEVT need to be artistically created for humans to have a chance of reaching greater distances. Event though the KSEVT is made for earth, there is much to be admired from its innovative and futuristic design.
